When do you visit a cardiologist (heart doctor)?

Seeing a cardiologist is recommended when you experience certain symptoms, have specific risk factors, or need specialized care for heart-related issues. Here are some scenarios where consulting a cardiologist is advisable. Chest pain or discomfort, shortness of breath, palpitations or irregular heartbeats, dizziness or fainting, swelling in legs, ankles, or feet, uncontrolled hypertension, especially if it is not responding to treatment, warrants a cardiologist's evaluation.

Diagnostic Tests and Procedures

  1. Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG): Records the electrical activity of your heart and helps detect arrhythmias, heart attacks, and other cardiac problems.
  2. Echocardiogram: Uses ultrasound waves to create images of your heart, allowing doctors to see the heart’s structure and function, including the heart valves and chambers.
  3. Stress Test: Evaluates how your heart performs under physical stress. This can be done through exercise (treadmill or bike) or using medication that mimics the effects of exercise on the heart.
  4. Holter Monitor: A portable device worn for 24-48 hours to continuously record your heart’s electrical activity, useful for detecting intermittent arrhythmias.
  5. Event Monitor: Similar to a Holter monitor but worn for a longer period (up to 30 days) and activated when you experience symptoms.
  6. Cardiac Catheterization: Involves inserting a catheter into a blood vessel leading to the heart to measure pressures, take blood samples, and inject dye for X-ray imaging (coronary angiography).
  7. Cardiac MRI and CT Scans: Advanced imaging techniques that provide detailed images of the heart’s structure and blood vessels. Cardiac MRI is particularly useful for evaluating heart muscle and function, while CT scans are often used for visualizing coronary arteries.
  8. Blood Tests: These can detect markers of heart damage (such as troponin), assess risk factors like cholesterol levels, and evaluate overall health.
  9. Chest X-ray: Provides an image of the heart, lungs, and chest cavity, helping to identify heart enlargement, fluid in the lungs, or other conditions.
  10. Tilt Table Test: Used to diagnose the cause of unexplained fainting (syncope) by evaluating how your heart and blood pressure respond to changes in position.

Comprehensive Cardiology Services

We offer a wide range of cardiac services, including:

  1. Diagnostic Evaluations: Comprehensive cardiac evaluations and diagnostic tests, including electrocardiography (ECG/EKG), echocardiography, stress tests, cardiac catheterization, cardiac MRI, and cardiac CT scans.

  2. Treatment and Management: Personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique needs, including medication management, lifestyle modifications, interventional procedures, and surgical options when necessary.

  3. Interventional Cardiology: Expert care for coronary artery disease, heart valve disease, peripheral vascular disease, and structural heart conditions, including angioplasty, stenting, valvuloplasty, and transcatheter interventions.

  4. Electrophysiology: Diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders, including atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, and bradyarrhythmias, with procedures such as catheter ablation, pacemaker implantation, and defibrillator implantation.

  5. Heart Failure Management: Comprehensive care for patients with heart failure, including medication optimization, device therapy (such as cardiac resynchronization therapy and mechanical circulatory support), and heart transplantation evaluation and management.
